Some Concept about Machine Speed

Base Speed :-

When a machine run at rated armatures voltage and rated filed current then that speed is called BASE Speed .Generally we have seen such speed noted on name plates of machine.

Speed Regulation :-

Whenever Speed change from No load to full load then speed regulation is defined as the ratio of change in speed to base speed

Speed Range :-

Ratio of maximum allowable speed to minimum allowable speed of the motor .It must mentioned that whether its speed lies at no load range or full load range.

Constant power drive.

Whenever the machine shaft power is constant over a given sped range then its called constant power drive.Higher torque is available at lower speed and lower torque is available at higher speed.

The size of motor is always decided by the highest torque requirement at lower speed.

Constant torque drive:-

 If the  motor shaft has constant torque over speed range then its called constant torque drive.
